May 2022, Kampala: IRC Uganda has been appointed to the Board of Directors (BoD) of Uganda Water and Sanitation Network (UWASNET) to serve the next 3-year term effective 2022. This was at the UWASNET 16th Annual General Meeting held on May 26th, 2022.  IRC Uganda alongside six others was elected to join the continuing four members, constituting the statutory 13 BoD membership.

IRC has been a subscribing and active member of UWASNET since 2007 and has contributed greatly to the growth of UWASNET through annual payment of membership fees, participation in the Network’s activities and in some cases, partnership with the Network to implement projects such as the Watershed, COVID-19 Response and the USAID Sustainable WASH Systems Learning projects.

“We have enjoyed the space that UWASNET provides for coordination and learning with those that share our vision of universal access to WASH services that last, and to engage with those with a different experience and thinking – an opportunity to leverage and influence policy. It is an honour to serve with UWASNET in this capacity,” Jane Nabunnya Mulumba, Country Director IRC Uganda.

UWASNET brings the combined civil society voice from Uganda to the WASH Agenda for Change Consortium for which IRC Uganda is country collaboration representative. This has facilitated critical dialogue for policy proposals, and has resulted into an impactful, single yet truly inclusive civil society voice for influencing policy change and practice towards the vision of universal and sustainable access to WASH.

As a network organisation, UWASNET’s Board of Directors are not individuals but member organisations and two ex-officio positions which are the Ministry of Water and Environment and the Secretary represented by the Secretariat.
