March 22 each year is celebrated worldwide as World Water Day and various activities are undertaken to mark the day. Ghana joins the world every year with a range of local advocacy activities to celebrate the day.

The Ghana National World Water Day (WWD) organising committee, led by the Water Resources Commission under the auspices of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources has selected Dodowa, a town located in the Greater Accra Region to host this year's event.

Under the theme, “GROUNDWATER, MAKING THE INVISIBLE, VISIBLE,” this year’s event seeks to contribute to raising awareness for public, policy and scientific communities; and contribute to achieving SDG 6. To achieve this objective, the National Planning Committee has lined up a series of activities to mark the day with the main national event happening in Dodowa. These activities include:

  • A countdown media briefing/ policy dialogue/ public forum on the event theme prior to the event day – March 22;
  • Training of borehole drillers on March 17, 2022;
  • Durbar of chiefs and the launch of UN World Water Report 2022 at Dodowa on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

Additionally, there will be series of Radio and TV talk shows on the event theme in Accra and other media stations throughout the country. There will also be print feature articles in newspapers, editorials and radio commentary, among others.

IRC Ghana, as always will join government and sector partners at the local and national level to celebrate the day.
