On July 05, 2021, the District Chief Executive of the Asutifi North District Assembly, Hon. Anthony Mensah and his team held a formal welcome, ‘akwaaba’ meeting for the IRC senior leadership team led by the CEO, Dr. Patrick Moriarty.

Hon. Anthony Mensah welcomed the team to the district after initial pleasantries led by IRC Ghana Country Director, Vida Duti. In his welcome address, the DCE recounted the challenging water situation in the district before the safe water strategy intervention and gladly admitted, “I can stand here and say that we have achieved a lot,” since the inception of the project. He expressed appreciation to IRC and the Hilton guarantees for the support.

The CEO, Dr. Patrick Moriarty responded to the welcome and outlined the mission of the team with apologies on behalf of colleagues from Uganda, Ethiopia, and Burkina who could not join the trip due to the COVID-19 restrictions; “but we are very grateful to have our colleagues from Mali and Niger who have made the long journey and to really come and experience what it is that you have been able to do here.”

The Planning Officer, James Ata-Era behalf of the Assembly presented an overview of the safe water strategy (SWS) project - the achievements, challenges, and ongoing efforts to achieve set targets. He also touched on the role of the District Assembly in the delivery of the safe water strategy and how this is being facilitated by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation grant. This was followed by a plenary discussion on the partnership and perspectives on how the collaborative effort is enhancing the capacity of the District Assembly and Partners to work together to provide safe and reliable WASH services.

Participants at the meeting included the district assembly leadership, heads of departments and units, district assembly staff, representatives of traditional authority, Latter-Day Saint Charities, and safe water strategy partners.
