Abstract

This is a recording of the "Collective Action in WASH: Findings from SWS" webinar, hosted on 29 June 2021. It shares lessons learned after nearly four years of intensive research on the use of collective action in WASH by the USAID-sponsored Sustainable WASH Systems Learning Partnership (SWS). The research is based on extensive data collection and synthesis of 11 case studies. Findings include recommendations related to: (1) the starting point for collaboration: does problem identification need to involve all stakeholders or can existing solutions be demonstrated or applied?; (2) the structure of the hub: when should government host versus a support organization? and (3) the role of local government: what worked and what didn't In terms of building and maintaining government support?

Following an introduction to SWS, there are presentations on collective action approaches within the programme and case studies from Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda.
