As part of the dissemination strategy of the NDPC Good Practice for WASH booklet a video has been produced which highlights the documentation process, launch and post event media interactions.

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) is set to deepen the use of documented lessons in the plans of Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana. Dr Mensah-Abrampa, NDPC Director General revealed this at the recent launch of the booklet on Good Practice for WASH in Ghana.
He cited, “the key example is the WASH master planning process where relevant actors are brought together like the case of Asutifi North, in pursuit of district WASH full coverage. NDPC will pursue these lessons in the next Medium-Term Development framework and it will be part of the guidelines for planning in the districts. These lessons will go far in improving not just the WASH sector but other sectors, using the master plan as point of convergence.”
The NDPC in collaboration with IRC carried out a documentation assignment from 18th February to 4th March 2020 to collate and publish ongoing innovative interventions on water and sanitation from three selected district assemblies implementing the District Wide Approach for achieving WASH full coverage, namely Wassa East, Bongo and Asutifi North District.
This exercise led to the compilation and publication of good practice for WASH cases for the purpose of sharing experiences and lessons learnt with institutions such as the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), MMDAs, development partners, private sector, and civil society organisations.
Dr Mensah-Abrampa acknowledged that the lack of documentation of innovative and good practices has led to repetition of mistakes of the past and lessons not feeding into policy and accelerating progress towards set targets. “This is what the NDPC and IRC collaboration are seeking to address in the area of WASH. NDPC is responsible for collecting all these practices and lessons and pulling them together and using it to shape policy and advise government on its pursuit,” he stated.
The NDPC Director General said that the lessons from the three (3) pilot districts are significant and the difference this time is that these lessons will feed into the NDPC planning process and will be shared with the relevant institutions and sectors beyond the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and to bring in the other related sectors.
As part of the dissemination strategy to raise awareness on the ongoing strategic WASH interventions, highlight major findings and generate further interaction with stakeholders the NDPC in collaboration with IRC and partners launched the Good Practice for WASH in Ghana booklet in August 2020. It was also announced that copies of the booklet and more stories are available on the NDPC and IRC websites.
