Banner WASH Talk podcast 19 - An Agenda for Sanitation

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi made sanitation a political priority when he launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to make the country open defecation free (ODF) by 2019. It will then rid itself of being the world's largest open defecator. The next challenge will be to make sure that all the waste is safely treated so that it doesn't find its way back into water bodies and fields. This is what Naina Lal Kidwai, Founding Chair of the India Sanitation Coalition (ISC) and former CEO of HSBC India, calls ODF Plus.

Ms Kidwai believes a holistic approach is needed to tackle her country's sanitation challenges. She is our guest in the latest WASH Talk podcast. She talks to host Andy Narracott about the solutions she proposes in her new book "Survive or Sink: An Action Agenda For Sanitation, Water, Pollution and Green Finance". Ms Kidwai explains why urban and rural areas require different responses, and elaborates on the roles government, civil society, corporations and ISC should take up.

In collaboration with ISC, IRC and TARU Leading Edge jointly host the Insights WASH Dialogue and Partnership Forum. One of the latest dialogues was on "Sanitation & Tourism" in India.
