The head of the water users association; the mechanic responsible for ensuring hand pumps are fixed; the woman responsible for collecting the water user fees; the mayor of the town. All play a crucial role in ensuring water reaches the households.

Ensuring that the systems are in place and tools are developed to make the jobs of these professionals easier - with the end goal that people do not have to worry about whether they'll have access to clean water to drink - is one of the key objectives of IRC in Burkina Faso.

IRC Burkina Faso works with people at all levels, from the commune, to the district to the national level. We not only work with the professionals working on service provision, but also with the ones responsible for taking political decisions, making policy and carrying out regulation tasks. Together with the sector we look into financing and carefully look at how budgeting needs to be improved. IRC tries to bring all these people together, in order to ensure they all are united behind a common vision. Together we look at what's working and what isn't in the sector.

Meet some of these people we have worked with over the past years throughout the Triple-S / USAID West-Africa Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (USAID WA-WASH) and how the programme made their jobs easier.
