Abstract

According to the 1991 census, out of 5 million rural households in Orissa, 185 thousand or approximately 4% had individual toilets. Although Balasore was showing about 60% use, the other districts studied - Ganjam, Nuapada and Sundargarh - were averaging only around 13 to 27 percent. This aspect stands out as a priority to be addressed. [authors abstract]
