Abstract | Target group: Programme managers/staff interested in developing & implementing new monitoring activities related to water or environmental sanitation (preferably at least two participants from a project); staff from training and resource centres interested in organizing training for monitoring and evaluation within projects/programmes. Objectives: To enhance capacities of project leaders and personnel to plan and implement monitoring activities which work to improve performance over the short term; to enable participants to monitor selected indicators relevant to their project, with an emphasis on consultative processes; to introduce approaches to participatory monitoring within communities and agencies; to stimulate the use of monitoring information, particularly at the lowest levels where action can be taken.
Programme: The focus is on: project inputs such as technology choice, village and site selection, involvement of women; effectiveness, operation and maintenance, community management; use and benefits; such as use of facilities, hygiene behaviours, water resources.
