Abstract

This booklet, aimed at school children in Namibia, seeks to teach them about the eight water regions in the country. It begins with a map of Namibia showing the location of each water region as well as a glossary of terms relating to the study of water. Following this is a section on each of the eight water regions which provides information on where the water in each region comes from, how the people in the area get their water, how it is used and what problems there are with local conservation. Also included is a section on things to think about which points out other water problems such as pollution; maintenance of pumps and equipment; the effect of dams; the impact of irrigation schemes, overgrazing and droughts; and water quality. Each section ends with a list of activities such as experiments, surveys, discussions, class trips, and role-play to further and reinforce the knowledge students have gained about water in their area.
