Abstract

This issue contains 12 papers presented at the Seminar-Workshop on Partnerships towards Responsive Solid Waste Management in Southeast Asia, 18-22 January 1993, in Penang, Malaysia, organized by the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD). The papers are organized under three headings. The first is solid waste collection and recycling, which includes case studies from Malaysia, Surabaya (Indonesia), and Bangkok (Thailand). It covers community participation and institutional development aspects such as privatization. The second part is on hazardous and hospital waste management with case studies from Singapore, Metro Cebu (Philippines) and Japan. The final section focuses on the final disposal of solid wastes with two case studies from Malaysia and one from Manila, the Philippines.
