Abstract | Report of a meeting called to discuss the reasons why the achievements to reach universal access to sanitary facilities lag far behind the achievements to provide safe water. Among the most important reasons for this situation are: lack of a national policy; lack of investment in sanitation; too narrow a focus on latrine construction with little attention for actual use. The results of the comparison of country presentations, group work and plenary discussions are reviewed and synthesised into a regional overview. Three presentations on specific topics: goals and means in promoting sanitation; environmental considerations; and knowledge networking were part of the meeting as well. Country reports for the seven participating countries take up most of the report. |
