While highlighting examples of different types of base maps and explaining why they are useful, James Batchelor looks at the basic methods that can be used for analysing these maps, including caste areas and multiple ring buffers. He also touches upon more advanced analytical methods such as hot-spot analysis and 3D modelling. During his presentation, James acknowledges opportunities provided by new technologies (e.g. GPS-enabled smart phones and tablets) and mapping applications (e.g. FLOW) for WASHCost and more generally for the WASH sector as part of cloud-based monitoring and/or MIS systems.
