The Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing and a former Greater Accra Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Honourable Edem Asimah, has stated that communities that benefit from water and sanitation projects must contribute to their upkeep to ensure sustainability of service delivery.

The Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing and a former Greater Accra Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Honourable Edem Asimah, has stated that communities that benefit from water and sanitation projects must contribute to their upkeep to ensure sustainability of service delivery.
Mr. Asimah said even though government is doing its best, there are a lot of competing demands on government resources and communities therefore cannot always look up to government to provide for these services and their maintenance. He said: "so people must contribute in their own small ways to provide and also to maintain the facilities provided them".
Mr. Edem Asimah who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi constituency in the Volta Region was speaking in an interview at a multi-stakeholder dialogue on the National Level Learning Alliance Platform (NLLAP). The platform was a Learning and Sharing event to discuss: The Right to Water and Sanitation in Ghana: A National Action Plan for Implementation.
Mr. Asimah disclosed that government is committed to the provision of good water and sanitation for Ghanaians. He said even though there are competing demands for government’s available resources; all is being done to provide adequate water and sanitation service delivery to all.
He commended organizers of the platform and said events such as this will go a long way to put government on its toes to be responsive to its obligations to the people.
