UNESCO-IHE, on behalf of the SWITCH Consortium and EU, won the IWA's Sustainability Award 2012 for 'innovation in the practical realization of sustainable urban water management'. The award was presented by International Water Association (IWA) President, Glenn Daigger to Carol Howe (SWITCH Project Manager) at the IWA Biennial World Water Congress in Busan, Korea on 18 September 2012.

 

SWITCH was a €20 million research partnership funded by the European Commission over the period 2006 to 2011. It involved an implementing consortium of 33 partners from 15 countries, including the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre. IRC's contribution focused on supporting stakeholder engagement processes in SWITCH cities through Learning Alliances and research on social inclusion issues.
