Mr. Joseph Katabarwa, Environmental Health expert, Ministry of Health, Rwanda knows IRC since 1998 when he did a three-week course on Hygiene Promotion in Nairobi by Netwas International and IRC. Later he did two more courses in Kenya: one on Management for Sustainability in Water and Sanitation and the Disaster and Risk Management course.

Mr. Katabarwa is a good example of practitioners who benefited from our three-week courses and the publications that they obtained from them during the period 1985 and 2000 who have grown into policy and decision-making positions in one of their ministeries. In March 2011 he was the co-organiser and host of the East Africa Practitioners Workshop on Pro-Poor Urban Water and Sanitation, Kigali, jointly organised by UNICEF, GTZ, WSSCC, WaterAid and IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre, as part of a longer term regional sharing and learning process.

He told Dick de Jong at the IRC stand at the AfricaSan 3 Conference in Kigalii on 21 July: "I am very happy to receive the package of around 50 copies of the brochure with highlights of the Kigali saniation workshop and hearing that the 20 papers we discussed are now downloadable from the IRC site", see http://www.irc.nl/page/62632.
